BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4. Steel consumption in Iran decreased by 0.89 percent during the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2025) compared to the same month of last year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the Steel Producers Association (ISPA) shows that this figure amounted to nearly 2.8 million tons compared to around 2.82 million tons in the first month of the year.
During the first month of this year, the consumption of finished steel products stood at 1.63 million tons, reflecting a decrease of 0.94 percent compared to the same period last year (1.65 million tons).
Meanwhile, the consumption of sponge iron reached 3.97 million tons - an increase of 6.5 percent from the first month of the year before (3.73 million tons).
Iran's steel production capacity stands at around 40 million tons annually. Authorities in the country have stated that efforts are ongoing to expand this capacity.
