Thirteen people were killed and 20 others were injured Wednesday when a suicide bomber attacked a police bus in eastern Afghanistan province of Nangarhar, a government spokesman said, dpa reported

The bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the bus carrying police trainers in the outskirts of the provincial capital Jalalabad, Abdul Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for Nangarhar's governor said.

"Thirteen people, including civilians were martyred in this cowardly attack and 20 others were injured," Abdulzai said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid took responsibility for the bombing, saying 25 police forces and two civilians were killed in the attack.

President Hamid Karzai condemned the bombing in statement issued by his office.

The "terrorists" wanted to scare Afghan youths from joining their country's security forces, Karzai said, adding "thousands of sons of this country will eagerly continue serving in security sectors of Afghanistan."
