BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. Kazakhstan plans to increase supplies of Kazakh oil through Azerbaijan, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel told Trend.
"This year, deliveries of Kazakh oil through Azerbaijan began. At the initial stage, they will amount to 1.5 million tons per year. In the coming years, it is planned to bring them to the level of several million tons per year," he said.
Ambassador also said that transport and logistics cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will be at the center of cooperation between the two countries.
"This is an effective way to increase our exports, receive income from the transit of goods," he said.
Bayel added that this would also have a positive impact on bilateral trade.
"In 2022, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan increased by 39 percent and reached $462 million. And according to the results of the first half of 2023, it has already amounted to $284 million," ambassador said.
Previously, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that, deliveries via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline from Kazakhstan will amount to 1.1 million tons of oil by the end of 2023.
"Every month, Azerbaijan receives from 12 to 14 tankers transporting Kazakh oil. This is a satisfactory development. The initial agreement between the parties provided for the transportation of 1.5 million tons of oil this year. However, given that deliveries began in April this year, we will be able to transport 1,1 million tons of oil by the end of 2023," he said.
