Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 13 / Trend , B.Hasanov / TURKSOY prepares the list of historical and cultural monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh. Thus the organization wants to inform the world with the Turkic cultural heritage, Deputy Director of the organization Firat Purtash told Trend over telephone from Ankara. "We will take efforts to include the cultural Karabakh monuments into the world cultural heritages of the UNESCO," Purtash added.
Azerbaijan applied to international organizations, including the Council of Europe, to investigate the facts of destruction of historical and cultural monuments of Azerbaijan in the occupied territories.
There are a total of 689 monuments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, 13 of which (six architectural and seven archeological) have universal importance, 242 (117 architectural and seven archeological) - of government level and 434 (373 architectural and 23 archeological, 21 - gardens, parks and monumental statues, 17 - works of art) of local level.
In 1992-93, Armenian Armed Forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and Nagorno-Karabakh's seven surrounding regions. The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since December 1991 Azerbaijan lost the Nagorno-Karabakh (except of Shusha and Khojali). In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The countries keep on peace negotiating.
The TURKSOY Material and Cultural Heritage Centre composing the list of material cultural arts in Karabakh, Purtash said.
On 16-17 of January, a range of cultural arrangements will be held in Turkey due to the 15th anniversary of TURKSOY.
The special meeting of the Permanent Council of Minister of Culture will also be held.
TURKSOY is an international organization and was set up in 1993 in Ankara, by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan. The organization's main goal is to keep, develop and transfer to the future generation common material and cultural monuments of Turkic nations between the Turkic speaking nations. The organization also cooperates with a range of authorized international organizations, including UNESCO. The Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture is TURKSOY's supreme body.
