Kazakhstan's Majilis (lower chamber of the parliament) changed by over 65 per cent, the head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the first joint meeting of the chambers at the opening of the new Kazakh parliament.
"Various social, gender and professional strata of society will be represented in Majilis. The parties took into account representatives of all provinces and social strata as well as the multi-nationality of our country, the presence of women, youth and representatives of various ethnicities increasing. The composition of parliament has become much better," the head of the state said.
The meeting of the first session of the Kazakh parliament of V convocation opened in Astana. Kazakh President Nazarbayev attended a joint meeting of the parliament's chambers where MPs took an oath.
Elections to Majilis were held in Kazakhstan on Jan.15. Three parties - Nur Otan (83 MPs), Ak Zhol (8 MPs) and the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan joined the parliament.
