Georgia has officially abolished the visa regime with Russia unilaterally. Mikhail Saakashvili signed a decree № 399 on the abolition of visa regime on Tuesday, February 28, the administration of President of Georgia told Trend.
The decree published in the Legislative Journal today and entered into force.
Citizens of Russia may be in Georgia for 90 days without a visa in accordance with the decree.
"I can not take Georgia and move it away somewhere to Mexico," Mikheil Saakashvili said on Wednesday responding to the question of Russian journalist on the unilaterally abolishment of the visa regime with Russia.
Saakashvili said that Georgia is a neighbor of Russia, as well as Russia is a neighbor of Georgia, but the president then added that Russia is a neighbor of Georgia in the historic area, but not in the territory which Kremlin wants to see now.
"You see, we quickly execute everything that we say. We said that we would abolish the visa regime, and it was abolished in five minutes. We did this because we have a free country. More Russian citizens coming to the unoccupied territory, the more information and pleasure they will have from the Georgian nature, hospitality and Georgian feast, wine and mineral water," Saakashvili told to a Russian journalist.
This statement was made after the Russian journalist said that after his arrival in the morning he was said in Tbilisi airport that there is no need to issue a visa
