Azerbaijan has completed preparations for census to be held from April 13 to 22. About 8 million manats have been allocated to conduct census, Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said at a press conference in New Azerbaijan Party office.
"About 8 million manat have been allocated from the 2009 public budget to conduct census," Valiyev said. "Extra 1.5 million manat will be allocated to pay salaries of individuals involved in the census and to publish accounts."
He said preparations for census have completed. As many as 24,000 workers have been hired. They will start work on April 13.
The preparation work includes identifying boundaries of regions, towns and settlements to avoid confusion. Diagrammatic plan of settlements populated by over 5,000 people has designed. The plan is important for territorial division and deploying points to count census results.
"There are already 19,000 counting points," Valiyev said. "Every five points are included in an instruction center and every seven instruction centers are included in a calculation center."
He said Azerbaijani population totaled 8.753 million as of April 1. The census is important to make the current number concrete.
The State Statistics Committee will accept accounts about the census results in the second half of May. About 200 workers hired by the committee will include the results to the committee's data base.
"Census accounts will be processed by mid-2010 and will be published in a book. Ten-volume book on regions and one-volume book on general results of the census will be published."
Citizens will be asked 35 questions; twenty nine of them concern individuals and six - living conditions.
The committee conducted census for testing last year. Shamakhi was pilot region. The test census was held in Shamakhi as the region has a town, villages, mountains and plains which enabled to learn difficulties workers can face during the census.
The last census held in 1999 cost $2.5 million. Azerbaijan had population of 7.9 million in 1999 and 8.73 million as of Jan. 1, 2009. About 49 percent are men and 51 percent - women. About 51.7 percent are urban and 48.3 rural population.
