ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 18. Kazakhstan’s Almaty strengthens its cooperation with China to enhance seismic safety, Trend reports.

Meanwhile, Almaty’s Akim (Mayor) Erbolat Dossaev visited the China Earthquake Administration (CEA).

In the course of the visit, an agreement was signed between the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of Kazakhstan and CEA's Institute of Geophysics. The document stipulates joint work on seismic monitoring and integration of earthquake early warning systems. This will allow specialists from Kazakhstan and China to exchange data in real-time.

Almaty is located in a seismically active zone, so one of the key tasks of the city's development program is to improve seismic safety.

As many as 28 earthquake early warning stations are already operating in Almaty, and 70 more are planned to be installed. This year, 30 new stations are expected to be launched.
