Danish company Haldor Topsoe, providing chemical process technologies and catalysts, is still in talks with Turkmen government to build small-scale gas chemical plants in Turkmenistan, the company told Trend.
The plants, to produce ammonia and methanol from natural gas, target to boost Turkmenistan's economy's ability to substitute imports while also greatly increasing the volume of gas chemical products exported.
“Topsoe is currently negotiating with State Concern Turkmengas on small scale ammonia and methanol plants in Turkmenistan. In the nearest future we are having a video conference with SC Turkmengas to discuss these projects,” the company noted.
According to the company the exact locations for the potential plants were not discussed yet.
Concerning the exports of the Garabogaz Fertilizer Plant, Turkmenistan's largest ammonia and urea production facility based on Haldor Topsoe-licensed technology, the company stated that the plant's main export routes are to South East Asia and Europe.
“Garabogas fertilizer plant was designed to have a daily capacity of 2,000 metric tons of ammonia and 3,500 metric tons of urea.”
Haldor Topsoe also mentioned the GTG plant, which produces gasoline from methanol synthesized from natural gas and primarily exports to Europe via LITASCO (Lukoil's trading subsidiary).
“GTG plant has a capacity of 5,000 mtpd of the methanol, that equals 1,800 mtpd of the gasoline,” the company said.
Haldor Topsoe, in collaboration with Kawasaki Heavy Industries and the Turkmen government, is currently discussing the construction of a second GTG plant in Turkmenistan, which, according to the company, will be built right next to the existing one located in Ovadandepe of Akhal region.
