Danish Maersk company becomes new owner of Poti port

Danish Maersk company becomes a new owner of the Poti port, the Georgian radio station Kommersant said.

About 80 percent of the shares were acquired by "APM Terminals" company, which is a part of Danish "Maersk" business conglomerate.

The sum of the transaction has not been announced.

"Maersk" operates in various spheres, including in the transport and energy sectors. The company has offices in 135 countries.

The Poti port is still owned by Arab Rakia Company. It intended to sell shares of the port last year.

Rakia has acquired 51 percent stake in 2008 for $ 90 million, while the remaining 49 percent - for $65 million in 2009.
