Iran’s imports increased by 37 percent in terms of value and 15 percent in terms of volume during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports citing the administration.
According to Mirashrafi, Iran exported 19.1 million tons of goods worth 23.1 billion over six months.
“The imported goods were mainly mobile phones, corn, soybeans, sunflower oil, compressed soybeans, wheat, barley, sugar, palm oil, and crude cooking oil,” he added.
The director general noted that Iran imported 5.9 million tons of goods worth $7.3 billion from the UAE, 1.5 million tons worth $5 billion from China in 6 months.
In addition, Iran also imported 2.1 million tons of goods worth $2.4 billion from Turkey, 1 million tons worth $900 million from Switzerland, Mirashrafi said.
The director general emphasized that in 6 months, Iran imported 14.3 million tons of 25 types of goods worth $8.9 billion. These 25 types of goods accounted for 75 percent of Iran’s total imports in terms of volume.
According to him, Iran's foreign trade turnover for six months amounted to 79.1 million tons worth $45 billion. The value of Iran's foreign trade turnover increased by 47 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
Mirashrafi also said that the transit of goods through Iran for 6 months, increased by 88 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, 5.85 million tons of goods were transited in six months.
