Kuwait denies oil field cooperation with Iran

Oil&Gas Materials 9 August 2011 11:38 (UTC +04:00)

Kuwait on Monday denied that it has started to develop an oil field in cooperation with neighboring Iran, Xinhua reported with reference to the official KUNA news agency.

"There is no cooperation between the two sides in this regard," assistant undersecretary for technical affairs at the oil ministry Ali Bin Sabt told.

The announcement came after earlier reports quoting an Iranian oil official that the two countries have started a cooperative project to develop an oil field but did not specify which oil field was involved.

Iran and Kuwait are the second and fourth-largest producers in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The two countries in 2006 agreed to jointly develop the Arash field and subsequently met to discuss cooperation in the oil and gas sectors.
