Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has received a license for oil and gas exploration, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend Sept. 7.

The license has been issued for oil and gas exploration in the Siirt and Batman provinces in a territory with a total area of 17,000 hectares, according to the ministry.

“TPAO appealed to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in July 2018 in order to obtain a license for oil and gas exploration in these provinces,” the ministry noted.

The law permitting oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey in April 2014.

According to the report of the ministry, a total of 56 wells have been drilled as part of exploration of new oil and gas fields in Turkey since 2014, of which 54 are onshore, and two are offshore.
