ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 2. The company Sinopec International Energy Investment Holdings Netherlands B.V. has commenced drilling an exploration well, C-1, with a depth of over 5,500 meters at the Sai-Utes site in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
According to the information, the start of drilling operations was attended by the director of a department from the Ministry of Energy, the akim (mayor) of Sai-Utes, and representatives of Sinopec in Kazakhstan.
“The company carried out a significant range of field exploration activities during 2023 - 2024, including 2D seismic surveys covering 1,006.74 km with a survey depth of up to 5,500 meters. As a result, six Carboniferous-period traps were identified, the prospective geological resources of the site were assessed, and the locations of two planned wells, each over 5,000 meters deep, were determined,” the statement said.
The start of deep exploration drilling at the Sai-Utes site is a major event for the geological study of the region. The planned cost of drilling well C-1 is 4.7 billion tenge (approximately $8.93 million).
Sinopec International Energy Investment Holdings Netherlands B.V. is a subsidiary of China’s state-owned Sinopec Corporation, registered in the Netherlands on September 7, 2022. It specializes in the wholesale trade of liquid and gaseous fuels and serves as an investment hub for Sinopec’s overseas projects.
