Tajkistan's farming expanding thanks to rise in cattle breeding

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 6. More than 2.6 million heads of cattle were being raised in Tajikistan, as of the beginning of October 2023, Mashokir Nazarzoda, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan, said, Trend reports.

He said that this figure increased by 125,000 heads from January through September 2023 compared to the same period the previous year. Among them, there were 1.3 million cows, which is more than 55,000 higher than in the same period in 2022.

The number of goats and sheep in Tajikistan reached 6.6 million from January through September 2023, with an increase of over 440,000 heads compared to the same period in 2022.

The number of horses in Tajik farms has also increased, reaching 87,000 from January through September 2023, which is over 2,000 more than the same period the previous year.

The deputy minister pointed out the livestock sector plays a crucial role in ensuring the country's food security, including meat and dairy production, as well as in the raw materials' industry.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, the value of agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 43.809 billion somoni ($3.9 billion) from January through September 2023, which is 3.192 billion somoni ($288 million) more compared to the same period last year.
