BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 10. Turkmenistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) are expanding the scope of joint work, Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central Asia at FAO, Viorel Gutu told Trend.

"In order to upscale FAO’s work in Turkmenistan with a programmatic approach, a Country Programming Framework (CPF) for Turkmenistan, derived from the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), was developed between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN for the period 2021-2025," Gutu said.

It was noted that the framework aims to guide a partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan and FAO during the period 2021-2025 in line with national priorities and the 2030 Agenda.

"The Country Programming Framework, countersigned by FAO and the Government of Turkmenistan on 11 December 2021, is intended to intensify the development of this effort and ensure the success of this long-term cooperation between FAO and the Government of Turkmenistan," he added.

Gutu stressed that on December 2, 2020, Turkmenistan signed a new regional project designed to improve national and regional locust management in the countries of Central Asia as well as in Afghanistan. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project will operate until 2025 with a budget of $7.5 million.
