Iran steps up oil export via its Bushehr port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 5. Iran has increased the export of crude oil and petroleum products from the Bushehr port in the country's southern part by 57 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through February 28, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023 through February 29, 2024), the director general of the Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Bushehr Province, Mohammad Shakibinasab told reporters, Trend reports.

He said that during the mentioned period, the country exported 2.8 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products through Bushehr port.

Shakibinasab added that during the mentioned period, the total volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the Bushehr port reached 6.04 million tons, which is a 34 percent more compared to the same period last year.

Overall, cargo handling in Bushehr province reached record levels during the mentioned period.

The official said that the export of non-oil products via Bushehr port amounted to 3.21 million tons. Non-oil exports rose by 19 percent compared to the same period last year, with cement, construction materials, and metal products being the main exports.

Shakibinasab mentioned that from March 20, 2024 through February 28, 2025, 70,200 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) of containers were loaded and unloaded at Bushehr port, representing a 30 percent year-on-year growth.

Iran's current port capacity exceeds 285 million tons and it moves to boost port capacity to 500 million tons.
