Police in South Africa detained up to 200 protestors for holding an "illegal" demonstration outside the Chinese embassy in Pretoria, reports said Friday.
The protest was called by the Zimbabwe Diaspora Forum to protest China's arms deal with Zimbabwe, dpa reported.
A Chinese ship which was carrying six containers of weapons and ammunition destined for Zimbabwe was recalled this week after it failed to find a port in which to off-load its cargo.
Witnesses said police had called the protest "an illegal gathering" and had ordered the protestors to disperse. When they refused police took them in several police vans to a Pretoria police station.
South Africa is home to an estimated 2-3 million Zimbabwean migrants.
