Iran, Teheran. Dec. 23 / Trend , A. Namradi / Iran needs to strengthen diplomatic activity in the Middle Asia and Caucasus,  Rasul Musavi, manager of the international and political research office of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said.

The conference on Iran and Threat for Regional Stability was held in the Center of Strategic Research at the Iran's Presidential Office on Dec. 23. The event brought together Rasul Musavi, manager of the international and political research office of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Pir Muhammad Mollazekhi, expert on India and Hamidrza Dakhgani, expert on the Near East.

Iran can extend its authority in Caucasus through cooperating with Russia, Rasul Musavi said. According to Musavi, the processes in Russia should be examined profoundly. Presently, the competition between Putin and Medvedev engenders problems in the Russian law enforcement agencies, Musavi added.

After the death of Moscow Patriarch Alexiya II, churches of Moscow, Istanbul, Greece and Georgia struggle instead of him, Musavi said.

Musavi said the ongoing events in Russia and Caucasus are very important for Iran. Moreover, the strengthening of oligarchs and Russian bodies controlled by Putin and powers supporting the ideas of Yeltsin should be Iran's focus of attention.

Musavi believes withdrawal of western powers from Georgia is the most important change in Caucasus. According to Musavi, the coincidence of the current process with the visit of Henry Kissinger, former U.S. secretary of state, to Moscow is of considerable significance.

The visit of Kissinger to Moscow shows that interests of the United States in Georgia does not contrast with Russia and the agreement exists between them, Musavi added.

"NATO's enlargement and agreement between Russia and the United States is poses danger for the interests of Iran. On the other hand, new diplomacy of Turkey i.e. relations between Turkey and Armenia puzzles Iran, Musavi said.

As to the project advanced by Iran to solve problems in Caucasus, Musavi said such kind of projects also exist in other countries. The non-acceptance of the Iranian project does not influence on its role in the region. "Presently, the role of Russia in Caucasus is essential and other states, with presenting projects, partake in settling problems in this region. Iran can play more significant role in Caucasus alongside with Russia," Musavi said.

Musavi regards the close relations of Iran with Armenia on Karabakh problem as an indication of Iranian authority in Caucasus.
