ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 2. The total assets of Kazakhstan's banking sector grew by 20.4 percent over 12 months from December last year to November this year, reaching 59.2 trillion tenge (approximately $112.48 billion), according to data from the National Bank published on its website, Trend reports.
It was revealed that the leader in terms of asset size remained
Halyk Bank, with 17.4 trillion tenge (approximately $33.06 billion,
a 21.7 percent increase over the past year). The top three also
include Kaspi Bank (7.8 trillion tenge, approximately $14.82
billion, a 24.7 percent growth) and Bank CenterCredit (6.6 trillion
tenge, approximately $12.54 billion, a 33.4 percent increase).
Compared to the beginning of the year, the sector's assets grew by
15 percent. In monetary terms, the growth amounted to 7.8 trillion
tenge (approximately $14.82 billion), with 2.45 trillion tenge
(approximately $4.65 billion) coming from Halyk Bank, 1.36 trillion
tenge (approximately $2.58 billion) from BCC (Bank Center Credit),
and 1.1 trillion tenge (approximately $2.09 billion) from Kaspi
Bank.
To note, the loan portfolio of banks grew by 5.1 trillion tenge
(approximately $9.69 billion, +17 percent). However, the share of
non-performing loans with overdue payments increased by a third,
from 863.8 billion tenge (approximately $1.64 billion) to 1.13
trillion tenge (approximately $2.15 billion). This is 3.22 percent
of the total loan portfolio of Kazakhstan's banks (it was 2.89
percent in January).
