BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 9. During the fiscal year spanning January to December, Azerbaijan experienced an influx of approximately 2.6 million visitors, reflecting significant engagement in the tourism sector.

The data obtained by Trend from the country's State Tourism Agency shows that the number of visitors increased by 26 percent compared to the same period last year. Thus, 2.1 million tourists visited Azerbaijan in 2023.

Moreover, it was noted that only in December last year, 214,678 tourists arrived in Azerbaijan, which is 11 percent more than the same period last year. In December 2023, this figure totaled 192,869 people.

According to official data, the majority of tourists last year were Russian citizens. The number of Russian tourists visiting Azerbaijan increased by 17 percent, or 105,903 people, to 731,009 compared to the same period last year. The second place in the number of visits to Azerbaijan is occupied by tourists from Türkiye. Their number increased by 13 percent, or by 48,037 people, up to 426,241 people.

The tertiary position in this enumeration is ascribed by the populace of India, comprising 243,589 travelers. The influx of Indian tourists surged by a staggering 108 percent, translating to an additional 126,287 individuals relative to the corresponding timeframe of the previous year.
