ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 17. The UNDP plans to launch a pilot project to integrate sustainable economic development into regional planning, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan Katarzyna Wawiernia said at a meeting with the Akim of the North Kazakhstan region Gauyez Nurmukhambetov, Trend reports.
The meeting addressed key issues regarding strengthening cooperation between the region and UNDP, as well as the prospects for further collaboration.
During the meeting, Katarzyna Wawiernia proposed launching a joint pilot project to integrate sustainable economic development into regional planning. The project includes the development of a five-year territorial development program that will take into account landscape planning, climate change adaptation, promotion of sustainable agriculture, development of green production and supply chains, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of climate agendas into regional planning processes.
“We support this initiative and are interested in implementing the pilot project. For our region, measures aimed at increasing productivity in the agricultural sector, improving resilience to climate risks, and effectively preventing natural disasters are particularly important. This meeting allowed us to align our efforts and outline ways to expand cooperation with UNDP. I am confident that through joint efforts, we will achieve significant results and accelerate the implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions that will have a positive impact on the development of our region,” wrote the head of the region on social media.
UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan are actively cooperating to promote sustainable economic growth in the regions. In the North Kazakhstan region, UNDP has supported the implementation of over 10 small and medium-sized enterprise projects interested in adopting green technologies. Additionally, $1 million in donor funding, used through financial instruments, helped attract over $3 million in private investments.
