BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8. A total of 4.82 million tons of wheat worth 990 trillion rials (about $1.64 billion) were purchased from farmers in Iran under the guaranteed procurement program since April 5, 2025, CEO of Iran's National Wheat Farmers Foundation Ali Gholi Imani, told reporters, Trend reports.
In his assessment, the disbursement of 453 trillion rials
(approximately $751 million) was allocated as compensation for the
procurement of wheat to bolster the economic frameworks. This
signifies that the capital allocated for agricultural
sustainability in return for procured wheat is under 50
percent.
Imani articulated that a significant proportion of the wheat supply
within the nation was procured from agricultural producers located
in the Khuzestan and Kurdistan Provinces. The aggregate quantity of
wheat procured in regions where the nation's climatic parameters
are projected to diminish by 30 percent relative to the
corresponding timeframe of the previous year.
This year, the cultivation of wheat has been executed over an
extensive area of 6.39 million hectares within the geographical
confines of Iran. A total of 4.22 million hectares are classified
as rainfed systems, whereas the residual 2.17 million hectares fall
under irrigated agricultural practices.
For the fiscal period spanning from March 21, 2025, to March 20,
2026, the assured procurement rate has been established at 205,000
rials (approximately $0.38) per kilogram for bread wheat and
210,000 rials (approximately $0.39) per kilogram for durum
wheat.
