BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. Azerbaijan welcomed 1,477,900 foreign tourists from 182 countries from January through July 2025, a slight 1.7 percent decline compared to the same period last year.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates that visitors were primarily from the Russian Federation (26.1 percent), Türkiye (17.1 percent), India (8.1 percent), Iran (7.9 percent), Saudi Arabia (4.2 percent), Georgia (4.1 percent), Kazakhstan (4 percent), and Pakistan (3.2 percent), with smaller shares from China (2.3 percent), Israel (2 percent), Uzbekistan (2 percent), the UAE (1.8 percent), Ukraine (1.4 percent), Turkmenistan (1.3 percent), Belarus (1 percent), Kuwait (1 percent), and other countries. Men comprised 66.5 percent of arrivals, while women accounted for 33.5 percent.
Compared to the same period last year, tourist arrivals increased significantly from Tajikistan (1.9 times), Israel (1.7 times), China (1.6 times), Japan (42.9 percent), Kyrgyzstan (36 percent), Jordan (28.7 percent), Kazakhstan (20.6 percent), Uzbekistan (19.8 percent), the Netherlands (16.3 percent), Pakistan (16.1 percent), Canada (15.8 percent), the United States (15.6 percent), Germany (13.2 percent), Italy (10.9 percent), and South Korea (10.8 percent). Travelers from European Union countries rose 7 percent to 61,000, while those from Gulf countries fell 8.3 percent to 237,400, and arrivals from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries dropped 6 percent to 522,700. Other countries contributed 656,800 visitors, up 4.1 percent.
Among inbound tourists, 75.5 percent traveled by air, 23.1 percent by rail and road, and 1.4 percent by sea.
Meanwhile, 1.1 million Azerbaijani citizens traveled abroad, a 2.8 percent decrease from the previous year, with 0.8 percent more visiting Iran, 25.9 percent more going to Georgia, 4.2 percent more going to Türkiye, and 28.5 percent fewer going to Russia. Of outbound travelers, 40.6 percent went to Türkiye, 15.7 percent to Russia, 11.2 percent to Georgia, 8.9 percent to Iran, and 23.6 percent to other destinations. Men represented 64.7 percent of outbound travelers, while women accounted for 35.3 percent. Among all outbound trips, 69.8 percent were by air, 28.2 percent by rail and road, and 2.0 percent by sea.
