The Azerbaijan Appraisers Association together with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is issuing internationally recognized certificates to local appraisers for the first time, the association's Executive Director Elchin Samadli said on Jan. 22.
Samadli said the country's first certificated appraisers will appear after passing the second stage of training in March. Ten individuals were involved in the first stage in October 2008.
By certifying local appraiser, the association hopes to increase the quality of their services.
U.S. experts will hold the second stage of training for appraisers through USAID, he added.
The events are part of ongoing efforts to certifify appraisers throughout Azerbaijan, Samadli said.
Earlier, participants of the third working group on appraisal activity, which functioned as part of an International Finance Cooperation (IFC) program to develop mortgage loaning in Azerbaijan and Central Asia, said the first certificated appraisers in the country may appear in the first quarter of 2009.
However, the working group decided to postpone pilot certification on Feb. 15.
A special working group at the Azerbaijan Appraisers Association will conduct examinations to certify appraisers as part of the first stage.
The Azerbaijan Appraisers Society was registered in 1997 as a public organization uniting appraisers throughout the country. A total of 80 individuals and 7 companies are members.
The Law on Appraisal activity was adopted in 1995 and regulates appraisal activity in Azerbaijan.
