Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree to approve an Uzbek-Azerbaijani intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation for 2011-2015.
The document was undersigned during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's official visit to Tashkent in late September, a source in government circles told Trend.
Karimov also approved a protocol on amendments and additions to the Uzbek-Azerbaijani intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel dated June 18, 1997. The document stipulates the maintenance of a visa-free regime for citizens until 2012.
The Uzbek Foreign Ministry will send a notice on the implementation of internal procedures to ensure the entry of these international treaties into force.
During Aliyev's official visit to Tashkent, the sides signed several bilateral documents - a joint declaration, an intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation, an agreement on cooperation between broadcasting companies, an agreement on cooperation between the Uzbek Academy of Arts and the Institute of Art and Architecture under the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, and several other instruments aimed at promoting cooperation.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were established in October 1995. To date, the countries have signed over 100 documents regulating their relations in various fields.
