In January-April 2011, the agricultural production increased by 5.2 percent in Azerbaijan, including crop production - by 10.5 percent, livestock production - by 5 percent, the State Statistics Committee said.
As of April, spring field work was continued, and as of May 1, spring sowing was carried out in the area of 260,700 hectares in Azerbaijan, which is 12.3 percent more than the same period in 2010.
Potatoes were planted in an area of 53,300 hectares, vegetables - 48,600 hectares, cotton seed, grain, corn, melons, sunflowers, sugar beet, tobacco and others - 30,200 hectares. Some 70 tons of potatoes and 31,900 tons of vegetables were produced in the farms.
In the field of animal husbandry in the first four months of 2011 the number of cattle increased by 1.2 percent during the year and reached 2.65 million, sheep and goats - by 0.5 percent - to 8.64 million.
During the reporting period, 133,000 tons of meat in live weight, 497,800 tons of milk, 343.7 million chicken eggs were produced.

Meat production grew by 5.7 percent, milk - by 8.1 percent, eggs - by 14 percent in January-April this year compared to the first four months of 2010.
