Iran is to turn West Azerbaijan Province into one of country's petrochemical hubs following the commissioning of Miandoab Petrochemical Complex and increase of production at Mahabad Petrochemical Complex, said the governor of West Azerbaijan.
"The Miandoab Petrochemical Complex will produce 140,000 tons of polyethylene per year," said Mohammad Mehdi Shahriari, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Meanwhile, the Mahabad Petrochemical Complex has production capacity of 330,000 tons of light polyethylene and butane per year," he said.
"Investment made by Bakhtrar Petrochemical Company in this region will boost the downstream industry and create more jobs in the province," Mehdi Shahriari added.
Petrochemical production in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province has increased 3.5 times in recent years.
There are three petrochemical complexes in the province that annually manufacture more than 600,000 tons of products.
