The system of auctions for renewable energy projects allowed for a significant reduction in prices for green energy in Kazakhstan, Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports citing the press office of the government.

He noted that international auctions held over the period from 2018 through 2020 were held in electronic format for renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1.5 GW.

Following the actions held, 58 companies signed contracts with Kazakhstan’s single purchaser of RES electricity for 15 years for a total capacity of 1,219 MW.

“The system of auctions allowed for a significant reduction in prices for green energy. The maximum reduction in tariffs for individual projects was 64 percent for solar power plants, 30 percent for wind power plants and 19 percent for hydroelectric power plants,” Nogayev said.

In his words, currently, there are 116 RES facilities in the country the installed capacity of which is 1,685 MW:
