Iran will invest Turkmen gas fields Iolotan, Iranian National Export Gas Company Seid Rza Kesaizade said, SHANA Iranian news agency reported.
"Officials of energy departments of both countries hold new discussions for Iran to invest gas fields of Iolotan upon the agreement to increase cooperation level in power engineering of Turkmenistan signed between President of Iran and President of Turkmenistan in 2008," Kesaizade said.
He hoped that discussions will give positive result.
Discussions on this issue will be held on April 15, he said. Presently, technical issues to develop gas fields of Iolotan and export of Turkmen gas to Iran will be discussed.
Iran prefers cooperation with neighboring countries, he said. "Iran intends to provide its northern region with gas but is willing to cooperate closely with Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey," Kesaizade said.
Term of the agreement concerning gas price imported by Iran from Turkmenistan will expire in June 2009, he said. "We will hold discussions on new gas price with Turkmen officials in the nearest future," he said.
Turkmenistan must deliver Iran 14 billion cubic meters of gas per year upon the contract signed between Iran and Turkmenistan and its addition, Kesaizade said. "Up to now Turkmenistan delivers Iran only 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year on different reasons. This issue will be also discussed at the meeting," he said.
