In the coming days, a Turkmen delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov will hold meetings with a number of UN agencies in Geneva, the local press reported.

The visit will be implemented on the President Berdimuhamedov's instructions to discuss cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and other international organizations.

In March, Turkmenistan announced the opening of its representative office under the UN in Geneva. The decision was aimed at promoting further development of effective contacts with the large international organization.

Last autumn Turkmenistan was selected as vice chairman of the Committee Bureau for Sustainable Energy at the UN Economic Commission of Europe, with its secretariat located in Geneva.

Other than Turkmenistan, the Committee Bureau for Sustainable Energy of the UN Economic Commission of Europe (UNECE) also includes Switzerland, France, Italy, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Russia, and Norway.
