Kazakhstan is currently in the process of developing a state program for geological exploration for 2021-2025, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev said, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform news agency.

He noted that the key challenge that the geological industry faces is the low reserves' replenishment.

“Currently, the mineral growth to mineral extraction ratio is 0.13 on average on solid minerals and 0.9 on hydrocarbons, excluding Kashagan,” Mirzagaliyev said.

This trend, minister noted, is the confirmation of the need to activate geological exploration as soon as possible, due to the fact that the time difference between new field’s discovery and its commissioning is usually no less than 10-15 years.

He also noted that due to this, the ministry is working on development of a state program for geological exploration for 2021-2025 in accordance with Kazakhstan’s president’s order.

“The program oversees assessment of oil and gas potential of understudied sedimentary basins and study within mining areas,” Mirzagaliyev said.

He noted that the implementation of the program will allow to better know the territory by 2025, discover up to 40 perspective blocks and assess the forecast reserves of hydrocarbons.

Special attention will be given to development of geological sciences.

“We are planning to approve the program in 1H2020. Within the framework of exploration activities in 2019, the exploration was implemented at 76 blocks. As a result, prospective blocks were identified in almost all Kazakh regions,” he said.
