Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO) will launch propane supplies to the first gas chemical complex in Kazakhstan, Trend reports citing the company.
According to the company, on September 10, Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas NC JSC (KMG) for oil refining and petrochemicals, Chairman of the Board of "KPI Inc." LLP Daniyar Tiyesov and General Director of Tengizchevroil Kevin Lyon signed an agreement on the supply of propane from the Tengiz field to the polypropylene plant in Karabatan settlement (Atyrau region).
The agreement signing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of KayMunayGas NC JSC Alik Aidarbayev and Managing Director of the Eurasian Business Unit of Chevron Corporation John Baltz.
The construction of one of the largest plants during the country's independence began in accordance with the instructions of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. At the moment, the overall progress of the project has exceeded 90 percent - mechanical completion is expected at the end of this year.
According to the signed agreement, Tengizchevroil LLP will be the supplier of raw materials to the polypropylene plant. The annual volume of supply will amount to 550,000 tons of propane fraction. The gas will be supplied by rail. At the plant, the raw materials will be processed at the propane dehydrogenation unit to produce propylene, and then at the polymerization unit they will receive the finished product - granular polypropylene.
“Getting propane from Tengiz is a key aspect in the implementation of an important project for the country's economy. This year the gas chemical complex under construction will receive the first batch of raw materials,” Aidarbayev said. “At present, the builders of the new plant are entering the final stage [of the plant’s construction], and in the first quarter of 2022 we plan to carry out the commissioning work. Cooperation between KMG and TCO companies continues for decades and the agreement signed today is another evidence of our commitment to long-term and sustainable partnership.”
“This is an important milestone in the partnership between TCO and KMG, which serves to strengthen our joint efforts to support the development of the petrochemical industry in Kazakhstan,” Lyon said. “At TCO, we believe in the future of the petrochemical industry in Kazakhstan. We’ll continue to work closely with the Ministry of Energy and KMG on projects that will contribute to the further industrial and economic development of the country. "
The polypropylene plant is to become the first fully digital facility in Kazakhstan. This will allow to control all processes at the plant remotely from the city of Atyrau. All physical work will be performed by robots, and operators will be in charge of the process through smart digital video surveillance.
The enterprise will be environmentally friendly through the use a closed water cooling cycle. All waste water from the plant will be treated and returned in the form of demineralized, demineralized, fire-fighting water, which will significantly reduce the overall water consumption.
