Intel, Microsoft to handle computerizing Azerbaijani educational system

The Azerbaijani Education Ministry is negotiating the computerization of secondary schools with Intel and Microsoft, the Education Ministry's Information Systems Department head Samir Mammadov said.

He added that the ministry reached an agreement today with Microsoft, which has expressed an interest in providing licensed software on a preferential basis. In turn, Intel is preparing a model for providing project implementation laptops  on a credit basis.

The "One Computer Per Student" project is implemented with the ministry's assistance within the scope of the Intel World Ahead global initiative. The program is expected to provide 4,000 laptops to pilot schools - 1,000 will be provided free-of-charge. The project's objective is to develop innovative models of using laptops in primary and secondary schools.
