350 OSCE observers to observe parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan

The OSCE Organization for Democratic Institutions ructions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has dispatched a 350 member short-term observation mission to observe the parliamentary elections campaign in Kazakhstan, Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov said in Astana on Tuesday while speaking at a meeting with heads of diplomatic missions of the RK.

"In addition, the observation missions with an overall number of 500 people are also expected from other international organizations, including the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, European Parliament, the CIS Executive Committee, Inter-parliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly of EurAsEC, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking countries, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, " Kazykhanov said.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree in November to dismiss the Parliament of the fourth convocation. Extraordinary elections to Majilis in accordance with the party lists are scheduled for Jan. 15, 2012, and candidates from the Kazakhstan Assembly of Peoples on January 16.

According to Kazykhanov, 21 new precincts will be opened abroad.

"The experience and the April presidential elections showed the necessity to open additional polling stations abroad. Twenty-one new polling stations will be opened in addition to the existing 35," Kazykhanov noted.

He believes that it will fully cover the entire electorate in broad.
