DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 6. There are plans to increase electricity generation in Tajikistan through the implementation of major projects, primarily construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, said during the Tajikistan-Germany investment forum in Dushanbe, Trend reports.
He mentioned that the country will also continue upgrading its generating facilities, which have been in operation since the 1950s and 1960s.
“In the next 15–20 years, we plan to increase our power generation capacity by an additional 5,700 MW, and these projects are already underway,” he said.
Juma emphasized that Tajikistan possesses a skilled workforce capable of carrying out these projects, and thanks to the collaboration between the government of Tajikistan and Germany, approximately 100 million euros have already been invested in them.
According to the country's Statistical Agency, Tajikistan produced nearly 10.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first half of this year, with 95 percent of it being generated by hydroelectric power plants.
The installed capacity of Rogun HPP is planned at 3,600 MW. Following the plant's full commissioning, the annual electricity generation is expected to range from 13 to 17 billion kilowatt-hours. The completion of the power plant's construction is anticipated by 2033.
