Iran aims to open soon-to-be-built railroad

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. Kirmanshah-Islamabad-e Gharb Railway Line will be put into operation in the west of Iran by March 20, 2026, director general of the Department of Roads and Urban Planning of Iran's Kermanshah Province Ramin Almasi said, Trend reports.

According to him, at the moment, 82 percent of physical works on this 261-kilometer-long railway line have been completed.

Almasi stated that 300 trillion rials (about $765 million) have been allocated from the National Development Fund for the completion of the railroad line.

The official noted that the railroad lines are implemented as a strategic project in Kermanshah province. The railroad lines of this province connect Iran's railroad lines with Iraq.

To note, the construction of the Kirmanshah-Islamabad-e Gharb Railway Line was started 13 years ago. The construction of this railroad line is divided into two parts. For the first phase, the physical works on the 110-kilometer railway line are 83 percent complete.

The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. A total of 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 wagons are in operation on Iran's railroad lines.
