(dpa) - Bangladesh's most popular matinee idol Mohammad Manna died from a cardiac arrest in a local hospital on Sunday plunging the country's film industry into grief, family sources said.
Manna, who was in his late forties, was the male lead in about 200 films.
Hundreds of grieving fans gathered by the hospital in the city's elegant residential zone Gulshan where doctors had declared the screen star dead on arrival.
Manna drove himself to the hospital after feeling chest pains during an indoor shooting.
The actor was at the forefront of the campaign against obscenity and had taken a tough stance on religious fanaticism.
