TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.17
Trend:
Iran's Deputy Minister of Energy Homayoun Haeri has announced the development of a mechanism to encourage the private sector to purchase power plants, Trend reports via Fars News Agency.
“One of the reasons for lack of private sector's cooperation may be that the purchase of a power plant is not economically justified,” he said.
Haeri said, the Iran's Privatization Organization (IPO) is pursuing the matter.
He went on to say that 60 percent of the country's power plants are now managed by the private sector.
“The government has to buy energy at a higher price from private power plants,” he said.
Haeri noted that incentives are needed to privatize power plants in the country.
"The state owned power plants have to be transferred to the real private sector," said the official.
