By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

A pilot green hydrogen project is planned to be launched in Georgia this year, said Georgi Chikovani, Director of the Energy Development Fund, Trend reports via Georgian media.

As Chikovani noted at the presentation of current and future projects of the fund, the development of green hydrogen production is considered as one of the alternatives to meet the growing demand for electricity.

According to him, Georgia has a huge untapped potential for the development of projects in the field of renewable energy sources, and in recent years, the public and private sectors in Georgia have been actively working on the study of green hydrogen.

"Together with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, with the involvement of various international donor organizations, we are working on the preparation of a report on the assessment of resources required for the production of green hydrogen, as well as on the issue of transporting green hydrogen," said hikovani.

According to the Director of the Energy Development Fund, after the completion of these studies, with the involvement of donor organizations and various experts, it is planned to develop a green hydrogen development strategy that will allow local and foreign investors to see and assess the business potential for the development of green hydrogen in Georgia.

"At the same time, a legislative framework is being developed that will take into account the issues of production, transportation and trade of environmentally friendly hydrogen. We are also working on mechanisms to support environmentally friendly hydrogen projects," said Chikovani.
