BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 18. Authoritative global consulting firm McKinsey, in its report "Global Energy Perspective 2023," has highlighted five key points that will become the world's main drivers of energy transition until 2030, Trend reports.
"Solar energy, wind energy, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and clean hydrogen will be the main drivers of the energy transition up to and including 2030," the research highlighted.
These combined five pillars are responsible for more than 50 percent of emissions reductions, in addition to driving energy efficiency improvements and reducing fossil fuel demand.
"Under the growth scenario, installed solar capacity globally would grow three to four times to 400 gigawatts; installed wind capacity would grow two or three times to 300 gigawatts; and the share of electric vehicles in passenger car sales would grow two to five times. The number of installed heat pumps will grow threefold, at least, but a sevenfold increase is also possible; the installed capacity of electrolyzers for the production of "green hydrogen, depending on the rate of their production, may increase 27-fold to almost 100 gigawatts," the report reads.
Bottlenecks and risks are not excluded, especially with regard to the production and use of "green hydrogen" and electric vehicles.
According to McKinsey's optimistic scenario, by 2030, sales of electric vehicles in the world may total 60 million units, and sales of heat pumps may total 90 million units.
