International remittances to Kazakhstan in April revealed

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 31. About 74,400 transactions worth 20.6 billion tenge (about $46.2 million) were sent to Kazakhstan from abroad through international money transfer systems in April 2024, Trend reports.

The data from the National Bank of Kazakhstan shows that, compared to March 2024 (74,900 transactions worth 20 billion tenge, or about $44.9 million), the number of money transfers received decreased by 0.8 percent and the volume of transactions increased by 2.8 percent.

In April, the largest number of transfers from abroad were made through Zolotaya Korona, Western Union, MoneyGram, and others.

In terms of the volume of money transfers to Kazakhstan from abroad, the leaders are: Russia: 5.9 billion tenge or about $13.2 million (share 29 percent); South Korea: 2.6 billion tenge or about $5.8 million (share 12.5 percent); and the US: 2.5 billion tenge or about $5.6 million (share 12.2 percent).

Moreover, the main share of transfers through international systems was carried out in US dollars (share of the total number of transfers: 36 percent, share of the total volume of transfers: 55 percent) and in Kazakhstani tenge (33.8 percent and 24.8 percent, respectively).

Meanwhile, the total number of money transfers through international money transfer systems (IMTS) in Kazakhstan amounted to 209,400 transactions worth 67.8 billion tenge (about $152.1 million) in April 2024. Compared to March 2024 (196,200 transactions worth $138 million), there is an increase in the number of transfers by 6.7 percent and in the volume of transactions by 10.2 percent.
