A Massachussetts man was killed instantly when a tree limb weighed down with snow fell on him, the first known fatality linked to this week's wintry weather, authorities said
The 44-year-old man and his neighbor were trying to saw a large tree limb Friday that had snapped under the weight of snow and heavy winds, said Michael G. Alves, police chief of Acushnet, Massachusetts. Apparently, the saw got stuck, and as the men worked to free it, the limb broke off and fell on the victim, Alves said.
The rest of the tree fell and brought down two power lines, CNN reported.
While parts of the Northeast and Midwest were cleaning up Saturday from major winter storms earlier this week, swaths of the country were bracing for more.
