BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 9. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has proposed, together with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, to send a joint appeal to the Nobel Committee to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

During the joint press conference in Washington, the head of state noted, “Maybe we can agree with Prime Minister Pashinyan to send a joint appeal to the Nobel Committee to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, because, for the leaders of countries that were at war for more than three decades, having this historic signature here really means a lot. This is a tangible result of President Trump’s leadership, and no one could have achieved it.

There have been many presidents here since the beginning of the 1990s, and the so-called Minsk process, which, by the way, we put an end to today with my Armenian colleague, started in 1992. Negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE continued for more than three decades without any result. So, who, if not President Trump, deserves the Nobel Peace Prize?

I don’t want to go into the history of some very strange decisions by the Nobel Peace Committee to award the prize to someone who did not do anything at all. But President Trump, in six months, did a miracle. So I think that my Armenian colleague will support this idea. Judging by the reaction of the audience, I think as soon as we come back, we will issue a joint letter. Hopefully, when the President is awarded, we hope that he will invite us to the ceremony."
