Opening the Turkish-Armenian borders may negatively influence on solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani Parliamentarian Ganira Pashayeva said. Pashayeva is in visit to Turkey with other Azerbaijani parliamentarians upon invitation of Turkish Parliamentarian from the National Movement Party Shenol Bal.

The Turkish Cihan new agency reported that Pashayeva met with Turkish National Movement Party Chairman Devlet Bahcheli in Ankara. At the meeting, the Azerbaijani parliamentarian said that Azerbaijan accepted Bahcheli's statement about inexpediency to open the Turkish-Armenian borders with ardor.

Bahcheli stated that it is impossible to open borders until the Armenian armed forces do not leave the Azerbaijani occupied territories.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Pashayeva noted that the Azerbaijani people closely watch processes in Turkey.
