The State Committee for Refugees and IDPs of Azerbaijan hosted an event dedicated to the 87th anniversary of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev's birth.

"Three of the four UN Security Council resolutions regarding the occupied territories of Azerbaijan was adopted upon the initiative and efforts of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. It is impossible to list events that he conducted with regards to the IDPs," chairman of the State Committee, deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Hasanov, said addressing the event.

According to him, Heydar Aliyev signed the first order on November 17, 1994 to resolve the social problems of internally displaced persons.

"A state commission was established on January 15, 1995 to solve these problems. The national leader signed a decree on December 18, 1997 in connection with the deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia," said chairman of the committee.

The deputy prime minister noted that on September 18, 1998, Heydar Aliyev adopted the State program to improve the social situation of refugees and internally displaced persons. Heydar Aliyev has repeatedly raised the issue at the UN regarding the problems of internally displaced persons.

"The national leader Heydar Aliyev is the architect of independent Azerbaijan and statehood," said the head of the "Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan" public union, head of executive power of Shusha district Bayram Safarov.

He said the nation is made known by its outstanding sons. "Heydar Aliyev is one of those people," said the head of the community.

During the Soviet Union, Heydar Aliyev also helped Nagorno-Karabakh and took care about the people living in this territory.
"In 1991-1992 I worked as the first deputy head of the executive power of Shusha. Then the national leader headed the Supreme Mejlis (Assembly) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic which was in blockade and was always interested in the problems of Shusha," said Safarov.
