BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. A total of 1,530 transactions worth 55.7 billion manats ($32.8 billion) were conducted on the Bloomberg trading system in Azerbaijan’s unsecured interbank market during the first six months of 2026.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the volume of transactions increased by 35% compared with the same period last year.

The CBA said transactions with maturities of one to three days accounted for 96% of the total volume.

“Money market activity remained high in the first six months of 2026. Continued demand for short-term financial resources supported activity in the interbank market. At the same time, interest rates declined in some segments of the money market,” the central bank said.

Interest rates in the unsecured interbank market also declined during the reporting period. The average interest rate on transactions conducted in the first quarter of 2026 was 6.58%, falling to 6.44% in the second quarter.

Overall, the average interest rate in the unsecured market stood at 6.55% in the first half of 2026, down 0.71 percentage points from the same period last year.

Activity in the repo market also remained high. In particular, the second quarter of 2026 saw the highest transaction volume in recent periods.

A total of 3,015 repo transactions worth 20.6 billion manats ($12.1 billion) were conducted during the first six months of the year, with banks accounting for 87% of the total volume. Transactions with maturities of six to eight days accounted for 90% of repo transaction volume.

The weighted average interest rate on repo transactions continued to decline quarter-on-quarter. The average rate fell from 6% in the first quarter to 5.68% in the second quarter.

Overall, the average interest rate on repo transactions stood at 5.83% in the first half of 2026, down 1.08 percentage points from the same period last year.
