Georgia joins investigation of air catastrophe in Congo

The Georgian Civil Aviation Administration joined the investigation of the causes of crashing "Ayrzena" airliner, Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Karbelashvili said at a briefing today.

He said that a special group has been created the previous evening.

The administration officials will carry out joint investigative activities together with UN representatives, Karbelashvili said.

He said that according to the information, the accident was caused by tropical downpour. But it is early to talk about the exact causes before the investigation is completed.

Ayrzena Airliner, performing the UN mission, crashed in Congo. There were 4 crew members and 29 passengers on board. Only one passenger survived. Four Georgian citizens died.
