"Azerbaijan Railways" transported 16 million tons of goods for various purposes in January-September, Azerbaijani Railways Head Arif Asgarov told press on Thursday.
"About 8 million tons of cargo of the total volume transported during the first nine months of the year fell to oil and oil products," he said.
He said that at present, such major projects as the creation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the integration of Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian railways systems within the North-South transport corridor.
The implementation of the first project will attract 5 million additional tons of cargo a year, the second - at least 15 million tons of cargo a year on route to Europe via Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran in the direction of the Indian Ocean.
