Turkmen cotton auction is held in Ashkhabad

Trading and negotiations between exporters and consumers of Turkmen's 'white gold' is being held as part of the international cotton trade auction which opened yesterday, the official Turkmen source said on Wednesday.

The state concern Turkmenpagta (Turkmencotton), State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the country's chamber of commerce organised the event.

Turkmenistan has harvested more than 1.05 million tons of raw cotton in 2011. Traditionally, the country exported it to China, Russia, Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.

Contractual obligations were exceeded in 2010, when about 1.3 million tons of cotton instead of the planned 1.05 million tons was collected.

The country has 36 ginneries under the state ownership of Turkmenpagta (Turkmencotton). Raw cotton is grown in five provinces (regions) of the country; Akhal, Mary, Lebap, Dashoguz and Balkan. Harvesting usually takes place from August to October, but this year it continued in November.

Mid fibrous cotton of the medium type is grown in all regions of the country. Long staple cotton such as Pima is grown in the Akhal and Mary provinces. Cotton production (cotton, lint and ulyuk) is sold through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.

Leaders and representatives of the international agency Cotton Outlook and the International Cotton Association (UK), the Cotton Exchange and the Association of China, the Russian cotton community and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (Saudi Arabia) all attend the event.

Companies that attend are; Sentral Cotton Company Ltd, Wakefield Inspection Services Ltd and Synder Ltd, ICT Cotton Limited, Paul Reinhart AG, Jecot SA, Rezana Trading SA and ECOM Agroindustrial Corp. Ltd, SGS Uzbekistan Ltd, CIFAL Group, Cottonex Anstalt, Dilosystems and Otto-Stadtlander GmbH, Mezhtrans Moldova, Maschio Gaspardo, SIGNALS-P, International Trading Company, O'ZINTERIMPEKS and Uzprommashimpeks, AgroBest Grup, Olam Imternational Ltd, Daewoo, TOYOSHIMA, Shandong Swan Cotton Industrial Machinery Stock Co., Ltd, Xinjiang Yinlong Internasional Agricultural Cooperation Co., Ltd and SHANDONG HONGRUN GREASE CO., Ltd, Avery Solution INK, Dneprkozhgalanteriya, Ltd. Al Teks and LP-Tehnologii, trading house Batson, Medteks and cotton factories Kineshma and Agrochem.

The long-term cooperation with international organisations and companies as well as end users of cotton, will be discussed at the international forum.

Representatives of foreign companies and firms that specialise in trading cotton, textiles and the food industries, will become familiar with the quality parameters of Turkmen cotton. The latest samples of finished products, achievements and prospects in the processing of raw cotton, advanced production technologies, as well as with issues of trade and logistics will be examined.
